Origin
Ecklonia species inhabit the temperate warm seas of the southern hemisphere around Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and the Pacific Northwest around Japan.
Appearance
The perennial plants can grow up to 15m long and are an important part of tang forests. Depending on the species, the leaves are pinnate to pinnate, without gas chambers.
Production
Ecklonia biomass is harvested wild, for this purpose the upper parts of the plant are cut off in a Tang forest and never the whole plants are removed.
